1994-2001 studied classical painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Prague (AVU); since then, has participated in over 25 group exhibitions in the Czech Republic, Europe, and the USA; numerous solo exhibitions: e.g. 2003 in the Trade Fair Palace of the National Gallery Prague; 2006 and 2013 in Vienna; 2008 and 2010 in Antwerp; 2009 and 2016 at the Hunt Kastner Gallery in Prague; 2012, 2017, and 2020 in Los Angeles; 2013 and 2018 in Vienna; 2019 at the Rudolfinum in Prague. Awards and prizes: 1996 and 1999 Prague Academy Award for the best student work; 2004 Henkel Award Vienna; 2004-2005 Artist in residence Vienna; 2007 Mattoni Award of the Prague Biennale; 2009 Award for the best animated short film Lost Architect at PAF Olomouc. One of the most prominent and internationally acclaimed Czech artists of the middle generation; his visually complex, dense, and darkly surreal works tell fragmented stories with subtle allusions to classical films and works of art. The figures, both concealed and revealed by the surreal architectural structures, remain isolated and heighten the sense of mystery.
