Jaroslav Róna (b. Prague, 1957)

Educated at the Václav Hollar Secondary School of Art (Hollarka) in Prague; subsequently studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM), graduating in 1984 with a degree in glass art. 1987 co-founder of the artists' group Tvrdohlaví [The Stubborn Ones]; in addition, collaborated with Tomáš Vorl as dramaturg and stage designer at the Braník Theatre; 1989 sojourn in Italy and subsequent participation in the Velvet Revolution; 1990s resumption of artistic activity, especially executing various sculptures for public spaces: e.g. 1993 Podobenství s lebkou [Parable with Skull] at Prague Castle, 1993 Labyrint [Labyrinth] at Agios Nikolaos on Crete, 2003 Monument to Franz Kafka next to the Spanish Synagogue in Prague. Since 2005 lecturer in Sculpture Studio I at the Academy of Fine Arts Prague (AVU). One of the most important Czech artists of the older generation; also known as a painter, ceramist, glass artist, printmaker, stage designer, writer, and amateur actor. Together with František Skála and Aleš Najbrt founded the comedy group Tros Sketos; regular performances at the Sklep Theatre; 2002 one of the composers of the well-known jingle for the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary.
