Bohumil Kubišta

Kubišta's Epileptická žena [Epileptic Woman] (1912), which explores the subject of extreme physiological states, can be seen as the embodiment of emotional tension. Her facial expression is reminiscent of a medium. In this way, Kubišta combined two of his favourite sources of inspiration: The novels of Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky and the spiritualist séances he attended.
