Marie Blabolilová (b. Prague, 1948)

1963-1967 studied at the Václav Hollar Secondary School of Art (Hollarka) in Prague; 1967-1973 studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Prague (AVU) under Jiří John and others; 1973 graduated after working in the studio of printmaker Ladislav Čepelák; 1973-1976 taught at the secondary school in Litoměřice, deliberately outside the art establishment during the period of ‘normalisation’; participated in important unofficial group exhibitions (Konfrontation II, MBÚ ČSAV 1978, Člověk, Prostor člověka, Dobříš 1980); from 1982 mainly active in the restoration of ceiling and wall paintings; 1984 member of the CFA and since 1996 also of the Association of Graphic Artists SČUG Hollar; numerous awards: e.g. 1988 Kraków Biennial, 1998 Hollar Graphic Arts Festival, 2003 Břeclav Small Graphic Art Biennial Prize and Vladimír Boudník Prize. One of the most important contemporary Czech painters and printmakers; focus on representational depiction of everyday motifs, often somewhat alienated and frequently using pointillism.
