This Argentinean ceramic figurine was a gift from Athos Fava to Erich Honecker in 1984. Fava met Honecker during a vacation in the GDR and, at the end of their conversation, gave him a clay figurine from northern Argentina with Indigenous motifs as a memento.
This gift is a sign of both parties’ political will to consolidate and strengthen friendly relations, despite the progressive decline in the relevance of the international network of communist and socialist parties in the 1980s. Supposedly, the ceramic figurine as a state gift was to represent Argentinian culture as well as the culture of its Indigenous peoples.
