Purchased by the museum from Heimatmuseum Falkenstein, concluding a permanent loan

This leather pouch was used to store sewing kits, flint, and steel. It was decorated with beadwork in geometric patterns. Indigenous women of the Southern Plains used to wear these tool pouches on their belts for everyday use.
This object came to Leipzig from the Local History Museum Falkenstein as part of the GDR’s museum profiling campaign. In many cases, objects acquired through the profiling campaign were originally handed over as permanent loans. The ethnological museums eventually finalized these loans by purchasing the objects. Due to a lack of records, it has not yet been possible to exactly determine the origin and circumstances of the acquisition of this object.
