A woman from the Feija community crafted this woolen veil around 1920 in the settlement of Aït Mansour. The significance of the various cotton stripes woven in the form of pattern bands is known only to the women of the Feija who created this piece. The oval shape painted with henna on the scarf resembles the motif of the Prophet’s sandal, which can be interpreted as a divine connection. In Morocco, the removal of sandals is seen as a gesture of welcoming and is symbolically understood as a gesture of setting aside worries about one’s family.
