Women of the Feija community crafted this wool Haik around 1903 in Afouzar in the central Anti-Atlas. The central section of this Haik features the Prophet’s sandal motif repeated four times in a cross formation, symbolizing divine connection. In Moroccan culture, removing sandals is a gesture of welcome. The eye motif is also repeated at the center, and, combined with the four arms of the cross, it represents the number five (Hamsa). This combination is believed to neutralize the evil eye by concentrating it and then dispersing it in all four directions, effectively repelling it.
