The "Dinner Service with the Blue Band" was the last dinner service to be produced explicitly for the Dresden court. The name of the service derives from the bright, wide blue band that strikingly winds around the vessels and the rims of the plates as a connecting decorative element. The clarity of the blue band, the medallion-like cartouches and the orange-red band winding around a gold rod all speak the language of neo-classicism. The painting on the white surfaces shows flowers, fruits, birds and insects of the local animal and plant world in a naturalistic manner. The models for this were provided by the painter and academy director Johann Eleazar Zeissig - known as Schenau. The focus of the décor on flora and fauna was certainly no coincidence in view of Saxon Elector Friedrich August III´s great enthusiasm for nature.
