The large silver tureen is as artistically outstanding as it is rare in the tradition of Dresden goldsmiths' artistic work around 1800. The tureen, made by the brothers Carl Christian and Friedrich Christian Schrödel, has a shape and ornamentation that is neo-classicism in its purest form. The vertically aligned, hemispherical body with handles that extend far upwards follows design principles that would be inconceivable without knowledge of antique vessel forms.

A total of eight medallions with mythological themes, which however do not form a coherent pictorial story, adorn the broad decorative band. These blue and white plaques of bisque porcelain are reminiscent of the Wedgwood ceramics that were so very much in demand at the time. They alternate with a very distinctive ornamentation made up of fan-like acanthus leaves. A mysterious Egyptian sphinx is enthroned on the lid.
