The records indicate only one chandelier for all the Emperor´s rooms. Unfortunately, the original documented chandelier can no longer be identified. Instead, a very worthy replacement was purchased. The chandelier with its nine candle cups is a good example of the extremely imaginative design of chandeliers around 1800 and was produced by the Chursächsische Spiegelfabrik, or the Electorate of Saxony Mirror Factory. Both in terms of design and technology, the piece is of outstanding quality: its unconventional basket or egg shape is special, even for the period of early neo-classicism. The interplay of the frame made of gilded bronze with the richly varied, Bohemian glass hangings testifies to the high level of Saxon craftsmanship of the time. The Chursächsische Spiegelfabrik in particular was one of the leading Central European manufacturers of brass-mounted glassware and chandeliers around 1800. You are looking at a masterpiece of Saxon neo-classicism.
