The visitor's chair

00:58

Since the inventory descriptions from the 18th century are very vague, it is not clear which kinds of seating furniture adorned the rooms. A historical photograph from the 1920s shows that armchairs like the model exhibited here were in use at the time. This model of chair dates exactly to the time when the Emperor`s rooms were being built, so there is reason to assume that the "speaking object" - the oval armchair with curved armrests - belonged to the original interior, although this is not certain. The so-called visitor´s chair is supported by fluted, conical, legs arranged like capitals. Transitions and the curved shape of the armchair are emphasised by rosette decorations, a bow motif on the backrest and acanthus leaf carvings.
