In contrast to the curved forms of our "speaking object", the mahogany-veneered chair designed by the Prussian architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel displays straight lines. It playfully combines this more angular design with curved and wave-like black carvings of mythological figures, some of which are leaf gilded. This design by Schinkel, one of the most important designers of neo-classicism in the German-speaking world, marks the beginning of our chapter "Neo-Classicism outside Saxony". You can discover two French mantelpiece clocks, an Italian mosaic table and other top-quality pieces from the heyday of European neo-classicism.
