Orhan Pamuk:
With Kemal’s support, Fusun’s husband Feridun was finally able to begin shooting a film, but the star was going to be someone else, and not Fusun. This caused Fusun to close herself off from everyone, distanced Feridun from the family, and turned Kemal into a man who looked for consolation in small details and bottles of cologne water.
The night club scene in Feridun’s film brings to mind the most famous singer of that period, Zeki Muren, and the song ‘Eski Dostlar’, which was a favourite of the novel’s protagonists.
