Bernd Ritter had a heart for the half-timbered house. He dedicated himself with passion to the research, structural saving and preservation of this special type of house. Ritter, a model builder and engineer for foundry technology by trade, was also a founding member of the “Gesellschaft Historischer Neumarkt Dresden” (Society for the Historical New Market in Dresden).
His passion was expressed in countless architectural models. Several of his models had real models, while he created others as ideal specimens with both creativity and knowledge. Ritter dedicated himself to his task with devotion and the necessary meticulousness over many years.
Perfection was his goal. The highest quality in execution was the ambition that the model builder set for himself. Ritter documented many of his works, for which he himself produced the tiniest individual parts. He often documented both the number of individual parts used and the time required for production in hours; he sometimes also noted this on the base of the objects.
Charged at an hourly rate, his small, precious items would be priceless. However, it was the love of the architecture of Lusatia that kept Bernd Ritter going. The time he required for these was of secondary importance to him.
