This portrait was painted during a visit to Paris by the Electoral Prince. The background is executed in a loose brushstroke. The main focus is on the precise rendering of the armour and cloak. Thanks to his numerous purchases of paintings, the later King August III was responsible for expanding the gallery into a world-renowned collection. Throughout his life, he devoted his attention to the fine arts, leaving the business of government largely to his Prime Minister, Count Heinrich von Brühl.
