This portrait of a young woman, which was probably painted in Augsburg, is remarkable for the subject’s delicate features, elegant clothing and jewellery. The gold-studded beret covers her blonde hair. Her dreamy gaze is probably directed towards a pendant portrait of her husband, since autonomous portraits of women were very rare. The most recent suggestion is that this elegant lady may be Jakobina Stammler née Ungelter, a member of Augsburg’s patrician class.
