Subleyras tells the story of Jesus’ visit to Simon, a Pharisee who was well-disposed towards him. During the lavish meal that the host provides for his guest, a sinner washes Jesus’ feet with her tears and dries them with her hair. Jesus then forgives her all her sins. The onlookers are initially shocked and appalled by this. Jesus, however, appreciates the kindness shown to him by the woman more highly than Simon’s generous hospitality.
