A dramatic death struggle is shown: the Trojan priest Laocoon was the only one who had recognised Odysseus' trick and warned of the wooden horse in which Greek warriors were hiding. The goddess Athena, who wanted Troy to fall. Therefore  she sent serpents to kill him and his sons. The bronze is a scaled-down replica of the famous ancient marble sculpture found in Rome in 1506, which was considered the epitome of pathos because of its expressive figures.
