The vast majority of animal figures in this room are the work of the famous porcelain modeller Johann Joachim Kaendler. He also designed the roughly life-size macaw in the centre of the room, capturing the bird in action as it claws its way headfirst down a tree trunk.
The porcelain peacocks displaying their trains also impressively show just how far Kaendler could push his material to its very limits. Yet in this process, he understood like no other how to vividly reproduce the animals in characteristic postures, turning their natural forms into works of art.
