Zwinger

02:33

For four weeks in 1719, the Dresden court celebrated the wedding of Friedrich August II and Maria Josepha, daughter of the Hapsburg Holy Roman Emperor Joseph I. Even though time was short, Augustus the Strong commissioned an opulent setting for the festivities – the palatial Zwinger, one of the most remarkable examples of baroque architecture. In this section of the Zwinger ensemble, we are presenting the treasures of Europe’s largest and most important porcelain collection. Augustus the Strong loved porcelain and was a passionate collector. In 1710, he founded the first European porcelain manufactory.
